Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How long have you been drawing for?
A: Technically, I’ve been drawing all my life! I started taking art seriously when I was 11 when I made my first real Original Character (OC), which was a purple & white dragon based off of Spyro from the Skylanders franchise. I have been working on art seriously for over a decade now!
Q: How long have you been writing for?
A: Technically, I've been "writing" stories all my life by making up stories as I played with my toys! I started taking writing seriously when I was 14, being very inspired & wowed by Undertale's narrative & characters! However, I didn't actually write anything down until I took a creative writing class that made me feel comfortable enough to write my ideas down, as well as taught me how to write it down!
Q: Where did you learn to draw?
A: I’m mostly self taught! The only things I learned during my time in school was how to do perspective, how to use watercolors, & a little bit of how to use digital art programs! The way I draw creatures, backgrounds, & whatnot was not taught to me in school! Instead, I learned those skills at home by admiring other people’s art, as well as looking at pictures of the real thing, & teaching myself how to draw the details I admired!
Q: What do you use to draw?
A: For traditional art, I use: Canson Cold Press Watercolor Paper (9x12 in), Speedball Super Black Waterproof India Ink, Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bombay India Inks (Set 1), acrylic brushes, a dip pen, & Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencils.
For digital art, I use: Clip Studio Paint EX; Textured Pen, Real Pencil, Milli Pen, 1844976 Ver.1.10.10 Default Sub Tools (Wet Blotting Ink), & Perlin Noise.Q: What inspires you to draw/what inspires you to write?
A: I don't like questions like this because they don't make sense. I've been doing both for as long as I can remember, so, I want to say 'human instinct' is what inspires me, but is doing something without consciously choosing to, being "inspired," or is it just following your "programming?" But then, is "what inspires you" just supposed to mean what media I like; what media might have influenced what I create myself? But, if you wanted to know that, you would've asked that. But then, what does "inspire" mean? It means to 'make someone take action,' right? Like, if you poked a bear with a stick, what 'inspired' it to attack you; you, because you poked it with a stick. So, what poked me with a stick to make me draw/write regularly? Nothing, nothing poked me with a stick??? Unless you're talking about what initially inspired me to draw/write, but I already answered that question above, so what is this question asking for then? I can't wrap my head around this, we're going to have to move on.
Q: Can I draw your characters/make fan art of your characters?
A: You may absolutely draw my characters/make fan art if you’d like to! It means a lot that you like them so much, you’re inspired to make art of them! I’d love to see what you made!
The only thing I ask is that you Please Do Not…
Depict my characters/designs in a NSFW way (realistic &/or detailed genitals, explicit &/or implied sex, sex toys, sexual fluids, fetish &/or kink scenarios, etc.)
Promote discrimination &/or violence with my characters/designs
Depict my characters wearing/holding/around offensive &/or hateful items/outfits/people/imagery
Depict my fat characters with skinny physiques
Additionally, if you do make NSFW art of my characters/designs ANYWAYS, I ask that you please properly filter & tag the art (if posted online) so minors cannot easily view it, & that you do NOT go out of your way to show it to me. I do not want to see it. Please & thank you.Q: Do you draw requests?
A: No, I don’t do requests of any sort, sorry!
Q: Can I repost your (personal, others’ commission, &/or others’ art trade) art? (Repost meaning you’ve downloaded a copy of the image & posted the copied image onto your account.) What if you’re not on that platform, but I am? What if I credit you?
A: I would prefer that NO ONE reposts any of my art, especially if the art was not made for you, & especially if I don’t have an account on that platform, regardless if you credit me as the artist or not. If you commissioned me for a piece of art, or I made a particular piece of art for you as an art trade, you specifically, are allowed to repost the pieces I’ve made for you!! (If you don’t hold copyright over the characters in the art I made, don’t repost it!)
The best way to support me & share my art with others is to reshare (reshare meaning you’ve used the built-in feature on the platform that shows other people the post of the art that is designed to link back to my actual account) the art! Some platforms call this feature “reblogging” or misleadingly “reposting,” but resharing is the proper & most respectful way to show an artist’s art to more people!Q: Can I use your (personal) art for my profile picture/profile banner on social media?
A: I would prefer that NO ONE uses my (personal) art for profile pictures or profile banners! If you commissioned me for a profile picture &/or banner, or I made a particular piece of art for you as an art trade, you can use it! (If you don’t hold copyright over the characters in the art I made, don’t use it!)
Q: Can I use your (personal, others’ commission, &/or others’ art trade) art for roleplaying?
A: I would prefer that you didn’t use my art for roleplaying unless I made the art specifically for you via commission or art trade. (If you don’t hold copyright over the characters in the art I made, don’t use it!)
Q: Can I use your (personal) art for a video?
A: You may only use my (personal) art for a video (both short “TikTok style” videos & longer “YouTube style” videos) with my explicit consent after contacting me (via social media DMs or email) with an accurate description of the video & how/where you will be using the art. You must properly credit me for making the art featured in the video; using my name &/or my online handle, Rachel Martin (@CartoonCreatureLover), will suffice. If you acquired my explicit consent with an inaccurate description of the video (such as claiming it’s a video about an educational discussion about art, when the finished video is about insulting the art featured & encouraging harassment towards the artists), I may take legal action & file a copyright claim on the video.
The only exception to this are school assignments that are not posted publicly online on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.Q: Can I use any of your art for Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs)/Web3/cryptocurrency/blockchain technology/training generative “AI” technologies/machine learning technologies?
A: No, you do not have my consent to use any of my art for NFTs, Web3, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, training generative “AI” technologies & machine learning technologies.
Q: What social media platforms are you on?
A: I am currently on Bluesky, Tumblr, Artfol, & Instagram!
I DO NOT have an account on: Facebook, Threads, Whatsapp, TikTok, X, DeviantArt, Discord, Telegram, Mastadon, Bubblehouse, Hive, InkBlot, Truth Social, OpenSea, E621, 4chan, ArtStation, Weasyl, Amino, Fur Affinity, Reddit, Toyhou.se, VGen,
& probably many more sites!
